B. Mission Statement

To be an open minded group, where opportunities are available for learning and growth, as well as become more familiar with various social media tools and be able to apply this knowledge towards organizational performance.

C. Vision Statement

Our vision is to support one another in our learning through collaborative efforts, and understanding.

D. Shared Values

Honesty: Convey one’s ideas and thoughts honestly as this is the best way to maximize the value from each team member.

Mutual respect: Commit to listening to and understand each team member’s ideas, so that we can effectively evaluate them and arrive at the best possible result.
Commitment: Follow through on your commitments in terms of meeting times, communication and deliverables. If a meeting or deadline is in jeopardy, then communicate this to the team as soon as possible.

Communication: Communication is vital to a successful group. Everyone is encouraged to participate and share ideas openly and positively. Positivity is also important for successful communication. People are more open to hearing positive statements than negative ones. Sometimes it is helpful to use “warm & fuzzies” to communicate in a more positive way.

Team-work/Motivation: In order to produce the best product we can we must value the work we do as a team. In an effort to keep the team spirit alive we should come up with a team name and logo. Then we will all feel we are part of our own unique group and motivated to contribute to the group effort.

E. Desirable team behaviors and consequences for non-compliance

Punctuality: If an unforeseen conflict results in a late member, then communicate this to the team as soon as possible otherwise, please be on time.
Reliable: We follow rules of the road such as time and place to meet, complete assignment (not half way done). Meeting deadlines is important and if one team member is having trouble completing his/her section other team members should provide support by sharing ideas.

As far as consequences for being non-compliant…this will be reflective in the person’s individual grades from the professor and group members at the time of evaluation which will happen at the end of our project (s).

F. Summary of individual member strengths and weaknesses (self-assessed)
Members Individual areas of strength (eg., good writer, editor, researcher, organizer, communicator, technology-adept, etc.) Growth areas for teamwork (eg., limited team experience, tend to “take charge and want to be in control”, writing weaknesses, inexperienced editor, etc.
Garret Earley I enjoy writing and editing writing as well. I am a good communicator and I enjoy learning about new technology and teaching others to use new technology. I sometimes struggle with getting too involved with new technology and assigning too much value to new technology prior to proving the technology to be effective.
Jackie Lopez I enjoy writing a lot (novels, plays, research papers, etc). I am good at editing my own as well as the work of others. I am also a good communicator. I am very detail oriented as well. Although I don’t enjoy it, I am a good researcher. Can work with Excel & ppt too. I am currently working hard at becoming more tech. savvy therefore I wouldn’t be the best person in the group to turn to but will try very hard if I had to. Also, I tend to be a perfectionist, which sometimes can be seen as another area in which I can grow.
Shing Vang Visual person so have eyes to make things a little “prettier” or “presentable”, very organized, can work with excel, some ppt, publisher, research, communicator Not a good writer, but can edit other’s work, have a little problem with numbers (a little dyslexic in getting #’s switched around)

G. Team conflict management plan

First, it is important for us to try to understand where the person is coming from so that he/she can be understood, which does not necessarily mean we are ok with the conflict. The next step is to see how, as a group, can we work together to resolve the conflict. If the conflict has to do with a decision within the group, then the alternate ideas can be presented to the group and the group can vote. If the conflict is personal and the parties cannot come to a working agreement, then it may be necessary to involve the professor.

H. Statement of team decision protocol

Our goal is to meet on scheduled times. At the conclusion of each meeting, each team member should have some individual action items that he/she will need to address by the next meeting time. It is important to be flexible regarding both meeting times and collaboration via email/blog/text/conference call. We are expected to be available upon all agreed meeting times. If one of us cannot make a meeting we should provide the team with as much notice as possible. In some cases the team should go ahead and meet, as work can still be done.

I. Encouragement of Teamwork

COMMUNICATION!!!!!!!!!!!!! By advocating for open communication, we will be capable of better results. Remote teams can be challenging and communication is a foundation that must be built first for successful teamwork. Please come prepared with questions and brainstorm before the meeting. In addition, we should have objectives and goals for each meeting so that we are not distracted and can focus.

Inclusivity: People come to a group with a variety of experiences, knowledge, and backgrounds. In order to benefit from each other we should accept each other and all that we bring to the table.

Safe Environment: To establish and maintain a good learning environment we should acknowledge our weaknesses as well as our strengths and not cast judgment or ridicule on questions, comments, or ideas we each have; in doing so we can work past our weaknesses and provide an opportunity for each of our strengths to shine, while still being united as a team.

J. Team self-assessment approach and methodology

Complete a simple survey after each project. In addition, have a meeting to clarify or discuss any questions or concerns.

Notes From Conference Call 02/12/11

Hello Team Dragon! Here are our notes from today's conference call in regards to our power point presentation:

* Garret will give an overview of the social media tools/technology used at Henry Schein Dental
* Shing will go over the challenges Henry Schein Dental faced from social media tools/technology
* J. Lo will conclude with the successes Henry Schein Dental received from utilizing social media tools/technology

Please remember to submit your power point notes through Word Doc-Blog Post. As new power point notes are updated through Team Dragon's blog, all will help to edit the slides. The next official conference call is tentatively scheduled for Sat. 02/26/11, if not sooner (TBD)...

I just wanted to let you both know how wonderful it is to be in a group where the team is very supportive and encourages collaboration...This week's reading in our Collaborating Online book touched on how instructors should promote and encourage students to pick their own leaders and/or make decisions within the group at the beginning. This type of support helps to minimize the possibility of conflict down the road. It also creates a collaborative problem solving approach from beginning to the end of the final collaborative assignment and I believe our team is on the right track :)

Thanks so much for everything!

Consolidated questions

Good afternoon,

I consolidated the list of questions. We had less overlap than I thought which is awesome. I am posting them below for your review. We don't have to do the conference call thing as long as we can come to agreement in this forum (or through text) on the questions to be asked. Please let me know if you have any objections. Jackie probably won't get this until later so I will text her (you) the questions. She might be unable to read them but at least she will have them available. I hope it's okay that I send the list to Andy now so at least he has an idea of what is possible in terms of questions for tomorrow. Good work everyone. These questions are sure to get us all the information we need. Talk to you soon.P.S., if everyone feels like talking still at 10PM, I am fine with that. Just let me know. Also, my preference would be to ask questions 8-14, but I am open to alternatives.

Thanks,

Garret

Conference Call

Hi Team,

I just wanted to let you know that I have a game tonight and will not be back until about 10:00pm. I have to stay for the Varsity game--it's a program thing-- all the coaches from the other team including the players will be staying as well. Apparently this game will help with the seeding. I know that 10 is really late so if you want to do it without me, I will understand.

Garret, if you both decide to do the conference call without me can you fill me in tonight? Or will tomorrow morning prior to the interview be better? Let me know.

Thanks for understanding team,
J.Lo

About Conference Call 02-03-11

I have a conference call today with my other group after work so if we do it later, say...7pmish, I think it would be fine.

J.Lo's Interview questions

1) What resistance have you seen? From whom? Why?

2) Are there additional social media tools that you or your team would consider using?

3) How have the leaders of the organization adapted to the use of these tools? Did they need to adopt the idea? Or did they welcome it to begin with?

4) What, if any, have been the problems that you have had to overcome through the use of social media tools?

5) What recommendations would you have for other companies that are considering using social media tools?

6) If you had to create a strategy for getting management/organizational leaders to adopt the utilization of these tools, what was your strategy? If not what would have been your strategy?

8) Are there any organizations that have been successful in implementing their social media tools that you have modeled your efforts after?

9) Do you see any negative impacts for utilizing the blog/other social media tools?

FYI

One more thing....
I told Andy that I would send the questions to him ahead of time since we have a limited time for the interview (30 minutes) and so he has the time to think about the information prior to attending.
All, these are the questions that I came up with. I know some of them overlap with Shing's questions. If everyone is okay with it, I can put them together and then at that point we can identify who will be asking what. Can we do another conference call? Maybe this evening? I am free today so I can be flexible. Send me a text with a couple of times that work for you if that's okay and we can go from there.

Thanks,

Garret

Interview & Team Goal

Thank you Garret!!! Woo hoo!! Great work on securing this interview for us. Now we need to just start putting together some interview questions. I also think that we should keep in consideration that we will most likely end up asking additional questions while the interview is taking place.

I'd also like to recommend that we all share in the note taking. This way we are more inclined to capture everything he says just in case one of us misses it, while still being able to maintain eye contact and appropriate non-verbals during the interview.

Team Goal: Let's try and have all of our questions finalized by Thursday at 12pm (noon). This will give us time (Thursday evening) to rework any "weird" sounding questions and/or make sure we don't have any duplicates.

Thanks again Garret!
